Lett- Landscapes of the Sacred- Chapter 1

The discussion of American Spirituality and figuring out what exactly a sacred space pertains to is a vast topic. Many go on journeys solely looking to find a sacred or holy place, almost trying to force it out of hiding. The reality is that sacred spaces are found involuntarily and they reveal themselves to those who seek them with their spirit and not just their eyes. One persons journey may lead to a sacred place being revealed to them when it may not be revealed to someone else and vice versa. There are four rules or axioms that help guide people and help them better understand sacred space and American Spirituality. 1. sacred place is not chosen, it chooses. 2. sacred place is ordinary place, ritually ,made extraordinary. 3. scared place can be tred upon without being entered. 4. the impulse of sacred place is both centripetal and centrifugal. These axioms describe that sacred place should be approached with an open mind and spirit. To me, its amazing to think that venturing out in nature can result in finding a place of potential worship or reverence based on your mindset. God reveals things to us when His time is correct. There are times when we pray we want immediate response and get frustrated when we do not receive it. The moment we let God's timing influence our lives is when we find true peace and are able to find sacred place.
