Block Martin Buber

On one of the first days of class, we discussed how we live in an ordered reality in which we have a goal; we don’t live in chaos. An example of this is being in the womb. There is no ordered reality, yet, there is no intentionality, or aboutness to us. We learn that there is an “other” and that we have a need, whether it be hunger or discomfort. We learn how to manipulate the world around us. Dr. Redick discussed how an “I” never exists alone because there is a pure consciousness unit it comes in contact with an “other”. We also discussed Buber’s work of “I” and “thou.” Buber talks about how every “it” borders on other “its” and where “you” is said, there is no something because “you” has no boarders.
