Hallucinogenics vs Physical Trips as Sacred Journey- Topic of Choice 1

Hallucinogenics vs Physical Trips
When a person has consumed a hallucinogenic drug, they often refer to their experience as a 'trip.' However, they did not physically 'go' very far, if anywhere at all. At the same time, many people who have had these experiences report back having divine-like visions or memories. So, then, can this interaction be considered a sacred journey?
We talk a lot about sacred journeys, where the journey is a physical distance covered by an individual. Hiking the AT and making the pilgrimage to Mecca are examples of these.
If the same result of having a divine interaction is achieved by both methods of consumption or travel, can they be considered on the same playing field?
Since I have not had a divine experience, ever, I don't think I can speak too much upon giving an answer to this question. The best I can say is that I can see how these two methods may lead to different types of divine experiences. One is based on visions as a created reality by the user. The other is formulated from visual and physical surroundings. Both involve merging surroundings with heavy emphasis on mental development and reception.
I look forward to expanding on this idea throughout my thesis paper.
