The Phenomenology of Prayer Chapter 2

This piece describes how communication is essential for human interaction.  The authors explains how he feels the act of speaking is more important than any word or content. Words can be interpreted in any way one presumes. Responsibility in a relationship is necessary and an every day event. Why are words so powerful that they can hurt someone so badly, or make them very happy? Speech and visual experiences clash. Is loud prayer and quiet prayer equal in the ideas of being scared or ritual? The author says there is nothing mystical about prayer. People pray to feel sacred peace and comfort. Communication respects and confirms alterity.
