Allen Outside Reading

While working on my paper I found a case study on Nature as Therapy: Cause studies from Australia and North America. Within this case study Sean Ireton talks about experiences that people have had after a traumatic experience while fully entering the sacred. He writes of a man that lost his wide to cancer and heads to the Himalayas. This mans quest is larger than he thinks. He seeks to regain a sense of balance in his life. The physical rigor of hiking all day along with the scenery and pure air promotes his cure. He also connects military veterans and how they overcome diseases and neuroses. Ireton say that "with nature we can regain the wholeness that has been stripped from us by the ills of modern civilization." I believe that this is something that more people should know about as an option for therapy. Before coming to this class I had no idea that there was a larger purpose within "going to a hike."
