Allen The Phenomenology of Prayer

One of the most common human activities is prayer. Humans tend to pray for objects while giving a sacrifice of something in return on our part. The reality is what could the gods benefit from is? As I addressed in the last blog, self-emptying is used to allow the sacred to enter. The basic concept of the sacred is what cannot appear, the phenomenology is what appears. For example, some believe that no one can see god face-to-face and live, he can only be noticed through earthly acts such as lightning or rain. Although, there is a second notion for the sacred known as one that has an equal place with the first. This relates to incarnation for example, when christ empties himself and takes the form of a slave.
