In Class Documentary- Camino De Santiago- Topic Of Choice 2
I particularly liked this documentary for showcasing some of the humor and light-heartedness of the community and friendships created along the Camino De Santiago alongside of the intense, life transformative awaking people can experience. There were a few points I think are interesting to reflect on. There was a young man, I forget his name but it said he ended up getting his degree in philosophy, who said that people will give you all sorts of reasons as to why they came out to hike the Camino. But he doesn't think what they say is the truth. It's not one specific reason that a person goes or one specific question a person tries to get answers to. Instead, he believes that everyone who hikes it just feels like they have to. There's some type of pull and allure that the hikers feel in their soul and hearts. A feeling words cannot be put too. In this sense, I relate back to the phrase, "The Dao that is spoken is not the true Dao."
The second phrase that struck me, was the shop owner who said that curiosity is the most important thing in life. I agree. Without curiosity, we would definitely not have the societies and civilizations we have today. Without it, we would've been fine living in caves and never would have asked the questions that lead to countless discoveries and developments. On an individual level, curiosity is the driving force that makes us work to increase our quality of well-being.
The third idea I took particular note of is how we really don't need a lot to survive. We place a lot of emphasis on material goods and large private spaces, when in reality they are a man made idea of consumption we don't actually need to be happy. We tend to fill voids with 'stuff.' For example, the idea of retail therapy is extremely popular. But that shirt you bought isn't really going to fix your problems.
