Topic of Choice - Western Wall

The Western Wall, or “Wailing Wall” is one of the most sacred places for Jews. Thousands travel to Jerusalem annually to visit the ancient piece of architecture. The Western Wall is the only remaining wall of what was the Temple Mount. The Temple Mount was built by King Herod in the year 20BC, but most of the temple was destroyed by the Romans less than a hundred years later. Today, however, the Western Wall is a holy place of prayer for Jews and Christians alike. Men and women are allowed to go up to the wall, though there are different sections based on gender, to pray and have a meaningful connection to God. The Western Wall also hosts many celebrations, such as military inductions and bar mitzvahs. The Western Wall remains one of the world’s holiest sites and is viewed by thousands of onlookers each year, hoping to feel a connection to the ancient Biblical days of Jerusalem.
