Morningstar Reflections from the Garden
[topic of choosing]
God is the Master Gardener of our hearts
When working in the garden this morning, as I was weeding a heavily overgrown bed, it occurred to me that this is what Jesus does to each of our hearts. The sin of this world has come in and attempted to strangle our potential to live in and with Christ everyday. The devil wants us to get so devoured by our sin that it exhausts us to the point where we cannot worship God. But God...but God steps in and weeds our deeply overgrown, hardened hearts. God is the Master Gardener of our hearts. He does not care what sin has infiltrated our heart, He does not care how overgrown the bed is, or how deeply rooted our sins may be. He sits there, at the edge of the bed, and meticulously picks each weed out. He does not just sit and pull off the leaves and stem, but digs deep in the soil to remove and uncover our deeply bedded roots. God cuts to the core of our brokenness to heal us and save us. These weeds that are consuming our heart can be any type of sin: an inability to forgive, lying, cheating, jealousy, selfishness. Anything. Anything that impedes our ability to live a sanctified life. God shows grace towards us through his intimate care and affection towards our well-being.
