Riley Block; Encountering Nature

Every summer I go to Nevis, Minnesota. Nevis is a small city with very few places to eat and doesn’t have to usual luxuries that most other cities in Minnesota have. The whole city of Nevis has a population of under 400 people, so everyone knows each other and has a strong sense of community. By spending nearly 18 hours a day outside, I got to spend time with nature by hiking, fishing, swimming, and exploring. Being in nature this long allowed me to communicate with nature and understand the importance of wild life and all its benefits. I hiked up the Mississippi river which allowed me to gain an even deeper understanding of the world in which we live in and how beautiful nature can be (even if there are too many mosquitos). Walking on the nature trails that surround the head of the Mississippi gave me one of the best experiences with nature that I have never encountered and the power that nature has on people is truly breathtaking.
