Roberts Six Million Steps

Topic of choosing.

The two weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break, we watched a film about people thru-hiking the PCT. It was really neat to be able to see the journey that those hikers are on for the months on end that they are on the trail. I learned a lot of cool things about hiking: why people go on the trail, how they get ready for the hike, what they bring along on the trail, and trail names. For the most part, they hiked to get away from the "real" world and their busy lives back at home. But, one guy was hiking to remember his friend and to spread his ashes along the trail. The coolest thing that stuck out to me was how people get their trail names. It's so interesting to me that people you have never seen before give you a name that will stick with you while you are hiking. Also, that nobody knows your real name, they only know you by your trail name. It almost seems as though that trail names are another way to leave your work life behind you while you are hiking. What happens if you dont like your trail name? Well, they said that you better speak up or else you will get stuck with it.
For me, I think that it would be difficult to leave my family behind for six months to go hike a trail, but the thing that I would gain and would mean the most to me, is having time alone with God and to be able to see is creation.
