During the beginning of the semester I researched Crater Lake located in Oregon. The lake is located in the cascade mountains formed in 4680 BC. This sacred lake is revered by the Klamath tribe of Native Americans. The myths are related to the catastrophic event they witnessed thousands of years ago. Legends say that two chiefs, Llao and Skell, were at battle over the sparing of a town. The Klamath Indians look at the like with such high respect. Many choose to approach the lake with bison quests based on the battle of the two chiefs. Another ritual involves running from the western rim of the crater to the wall of the lake. Those who are able to complete this "challenge" are believed to have superior spiritual powers. Rocks are then pilled as accomplishments of endurance and evidence of spiritual effort.
