Image and Pilgrimage #1

Over the course of the semester, we have devoted a great deal of time to studying sacred journeys, also refereed to as pilgrimages. Pilgrimages are a common method people take to experience the divine. Turner also brings up the argument that pilgrimage offers freedom from social structures and expectations associated with a specific organized religious system. This allows for the individual to have their unique, tailored connection to the divine. I feel like this is a major reason why it is not uncommon to hear of people reporting spiritual journeys after hiking the AT and PCT. This is how people are able to experience a liminal, transitional state to higher consciousness.
