Kueser Trail Stories
When in nature, it is important to not only look, but also to read — not from a book, but from the surrounding areas. With just a little extra observation, every tree, rock, riverbank, or anything else can become an entire story. Unlike humans, who can recover from almost any injury without any sign that it ever happened, most of the natural world will hold some sign, however small, of everything that has happened in its past. What at first looks like just a small lump in the bark of a massive tree may be where a storm ripped a branch off, scarring it permanently. An area dominated by young saplings may have resulted from a wildfire destroying the older trees. Everything that exists in nature has some story to tell, some disaster it has survived or some battle it has won, however they can’t be noticed unless you are willing to stop and listen for them.
